The technology cutting edge in emergency management is standard for the members of the Morganville First Aid and Rescue Squad.

It is one of the few squads in the state that has deployed a Zoll Autopulse Resuscitation System. This is an automated CPR device proven to improve patient outcomes. Using the entire chest for compressions, simplifying patient movement compared to traditional techniques and assuring uninterrupted compressions, it has been deployed more than 20 times in the past three months in Marlboro.

The Columbia Bank Foundation provided a grant to purchase the device. Members complete four hours of initial training with the unit and practice regularly to keep their skills fresh. Recently, other local first responders and the local hospitals are becoming familiar with the unit.

MFARS, a voluntary emergency medical organization located on Tennent Road, has been serving the Morganville/Marlboro community for 65 years. Members are certified EMT volunteers and residents of the community. Its members come from all walks of life, and it is a valuable training ground for young students interested in pursuing a medical career.

MFARS, a community resource, sponsors regular blood drives with the Central Jersey Blood Bank, teaches classes in CPR and first aid. Training at all levels is often free or at low cost. Often, members start as observers and find the team work, dedication to excellence, culture of service and problem solving personally rewarding.

This past year, members committed a total of 17,000 hours to answering first aid calls within the town.

“We welcome new volunteers ready to help their neighbors,” Capt. Erik Meskin said. “There is no greater feeling in the world than to know you made a difference.”
