The competition took place on Feb. 10 at Mattituck High School, Mattituck, N.Y. The Colts Neck participants were juniors Carmela Apostle, Michael Fluck and Jake Thacke, and sophomores Ella Bohen and Maxwell Miller.

The Colts Neck students will compete in the Brain Brawl National Championship in Phoenix, Ariz., on April 28.

Cadet Carmela Apostle said, “Our victory was the reward we received for all our hard work. We came to school at 7 a.m. most mornings since September to study and improve our chances when we competed. Winning our area’s Brain Brawl is really sweet. I am really excited because we will get to go to Arizona.”

Cadet Maxwell Miller said, “This has been a great experience. I’m glad Cadet Apostle and Maj. (Gregory) Penczak encouraged me to join this team. It was fun, I’ve learned a lot and now, I’m going to Arizona.”
