The annual golf outing sponsored by the Freehold Municipal Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse will reach its 20th anniversary on May 21 while continuing to pursue its mission of raising funds to combat substance abuse.

“Tee off Against Opioid Abuse,” the Ray Kershaw Memorial Golf Outing fundraiser, will be held at the Battleground Country Club, Manalapan Township. Registration for the event will begin at 11 a.m. All members of the community are welcome to participate.

The fundraiser is hosted by the alliance, which serves residents of Freehold Township and Freehold Borough to spread awareness of and work toward the prevention of substance abuse.

The golf outing is one source of funding for the alliance’s programs and activities. The Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse is the alliance’s primary source of funding, according to a press release.

The day’s activities will feature lunch, golf, dinner, contests, prizes, a 50/50 raffle and gift baskets. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., golf will begin at 12:30 p.m., a reception will take place at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Player registration is $200. Dinner only is $85.

Different levels of sponsorship are available, ranging from $250 to $2,500. Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden will serve as the keynote speaker at this year’s event.

The event is named for Ray Kershaw, a former township committeeman and mayor in Freehold Township who served as vice chairman of the alliance until his death in 2009.

“Over the past 20 years, the outing has become a Freehold tradition,” said John McGeehan, co-chairman of the alliance. “It’s going to be a wonderful day, honoring the memory of Ray and raising much needed funds for the alliance.”
