ENGLISHTOWN – A new full-time police officer has been appointed to the Englishtown Police Department by the Borough Council.

On April 25, council members appointed Katelyn Kwiecinski as a full-time probationary officer. Kwiecinski was sworn in to her new position following the passage of a resolution.

Kwiecinski’s appointment followed the resignation of Patrolman Adam Liotta, who worked in Englishtown for four years. Liotta has accepted a position with the Hopewell Township Police Department.

Kwiecinski had been serving as a Special Law Enforcement Officer, Class II, since joining the Englishtown Police Department in 2015. She previously served as a Cass II officer in Sea Girt. The salary for her new position is $40,731.

“In her two-plus years in Englishtown, Katelyn excelled in her job performance and has been a dedicated, hard-working member of this department,” the police department said in a statement. “The officers of the department wish Katelyn the best of luck as she embarks on her full-time law enforcement career.”

To fill the vacancy resulting from Kwiecinski’s promotion, the council authorized Acting Police Chief Peter Cooke to make a conditional offer of employment to James Sakers for the position of Class II officer. A special officer is paid $14 per hour.

Officials said Sakers’ appointment is conditional upon the successful passage of a background investigation, a physical examination, a psychological evaluation and firearms qualification. Sakers previously worked as a Class II officer with the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department.
