Get to know the candidates in Democratic primary

In New Jersey’s Fourth Congressional District, this year’s Democratic primary is not the same old same old. There is an exciting contested primary going on in the district.

In past years it was enough for a Democrat to go into the polling place and just click on the party line. I urge voters this year to become informed about the two candidates running for the opportunity to oppose Representative Chris Smith in the fall.

You can view the debates between Jim Keady and Josh Welle online and decide for yourself. They have engaged in several spirited debates that clearly demonstrate the differences in their views and communication styles.

I believe it is important to choose the candidate who will be able to energize people who do not usually come out to vote in non-presidential election years.

As Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.”
