Public hearings will be conducted in Howell and Freehold Township on May 31 to give residents the opportunity to learn about and comment on a road project that will touch both municipalities.

Monmouth County is proposing safety improvements which will include realignment and road widening to approximately 1.94 miles of Halls Mill Road, Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) and Edinburgh Drive.

The construction project will include the replacement of three bridges within the project limits, according to the county.

Monmouth County, in cooperation with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration, will host public information center meetings to inform residents, officials, the business community and the general public about the planned project in Howell and Freehold Township, according to a press release.

According to the county, the purpose of the meetings is to inform the public of the proposed improvements and provide an opportunity for public input and comments. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to comment on the project.

A public meeting will take place on May 31 from 2-4 p.m. (brief presentation at 2:30 p.m.) at the Howell Township municipal building, 4567 Route 9 North, Howell, and from 6-8 p.m. (brief presentation at 6:30 p.m.) at the Freehold Township municipal building, corner of Schanck and Stillwells Corner roads, Freehold Township. Residents of any municipality may stop in at either meeting at any time during the two-hour window.

Following the meeting, the project presentation and boards will be available on the Monmouth County website at www.VisitMonouth.com

For those unable to attend and provide comments at a meeting, the county will accept written comments through July 2. Written comments may be submitted by email to
