Issue concerning plastic bags needs to be discussed

Regarding the letter to the editor from Jacquelin Duffy (“Your Turn Writer’s Passion Was Misplaced”) in the June 6 News Transcript, the author is so focused on her one-track agenda that she feels no one else should be permitted to write about any issues except what is important to her.

How she can twist an article about taking care of our environment and planet into an anti-abortion and anti-death with dignity letter is mind boggling.

I guess she is not concerned with the condition of the planet on which all these unborn and
terminally ill people will need to live. The issue of these ubiquitous non-biodegradable bags
blowing around our streets and highways and messing up our oceans is an important one, and an issue that needs to be addressed.

I find it presumptuous of Ms. Duffy to feel she has the authority to decide what is right for
another person, whether it be the extremely difficult decision to terminate a pregnancy, or the decision of a terminally ill person to die with dignity on his or her own terms.
