Red Bank 5K Classic attracts more than 1,000 runners

 The Red Bank 5K Classic attracted a field of more than 1,000 runners to the annual event that benefits youth programs at The Community YMCA and the Red Bank Department of Parks and Recreation.

The June 16 event, which included participants Gov. Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy, will evenly distribute the proceeds between the Y’s Family Health and Wellness Center in Red Bank and the Department of Parks and Recreation to support youth development programs, according to a press release.

Organizers said 31 teams competed in the race. 

In the press release, Angela Courtney, a member of the Red Bank Business Alliance and owner of Sweetest Sin Boutique, said, “It was a great day for Red Bank. The race brought our community together for a day of health and fun for a great cause.”

The Red Bank Business Alliance and Red Bank RiverCenter organized the event with support from more than 60 businesses and 50 volunteers, according to the press release.

The alliance is a group of business owners who “enhance the vibrancy of Red Bank as a destination for shopping, dining and entertainment,” according to its website.  

According to the press release, the governor and the first lady crossed the finish line together in about 27 minutes. The top three finishers were: Erin Jaffe, 17, of Holmdel, 17:18; Kerry O’Brien, 34, of Belford, 17:22; and Anthony Scamardella, 19, of Red Bank, 17:41.

According to the press release, the title sponsors of the Red Bank 5K Classic were Morgan Stanley (Durso Wealth Management Group) and Kitch Organic.

Presenting sponsors were Red Bank Tap + Grill and Two River Community Bank; Gold Level sponsors were Sweetest Sin Boutique, Jr’s Red Bank, Foodtown, Community Magazine and Crossfit Treehouse; and Silver Level sponsors were Split Second Racing, Dean’s Natural Food Market, Anthony Setaro, Flow Paddle Yoga, Atlantic Rent-A-Fence, Life as Fine Art, OceanFirst Bank, Silver+Oak Realty, Antoinette Boulangerie, Road Runner Sports, Primerica, A Kneaded Vacation and Scooter Dudes.
