Temple will sponsor trip to ‘Fiddler’

FREEHOLD – The Freehold Jewish Center, which recently celebrated a centennial (1911-2011), is sponsoring a bus trip with Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Greater Monmouth County to the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene’s (NYTF) production of “Fiddler on the Roof” in New York City on July 26.

This production of “Fiddler on the Roof” is directed by actor-director Joel Grey and will be performed in Yiddish with English and Russian supertitles projected on stage. The production has been staged in an intimate theater at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in lower Manhattan and the official home of the NYTF, according to a press release.

The production is sung in Yiddish, which is the language in which Sholom Aleichem originally wrote the stories that inspired the 1964 Broadway musical, according to the press release.

All members of the community are invited to attend the performance. Seating is limited and includes bus transportation, brown bag kosher lunch and premium seating in the handicapped accessible theater in lower Manhattan. The cost is $118 per person.

The bus will leave the Freehold Jewish Center at 11 a.m. for the 1 p.m. matinee. The bus will return by 5:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance to guarantee seating. Tickets may be purchased online at Freehloldjc.org or by calling 732-462-0254.
