MANALAPAN – The History Book Club will present a discussion about “Three Days in January: Dwight Eisenhower’s Final Mission” when it meets at 11 a.m. Aug. 28 in the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan. The program is open to all and no reservations are necessary.

“Three Days in January: Dwight Eisenhower’s Final Mission” was written by Bret Baier, chief political anchor for Fox News Channel. The book highlights the last three days in office between when Eisenhower gave his farewell speech as president and the inauguration of his successor, John F. Kennedy, according to a press release.

The book highlights the friendship between the two presidents who did not share a political party, but did share an eager teacher-student relationship as the former Army general shared lessons from his long career with the nation’s youngest new president, according to the press release.

The program is being held in memory of John Wolt, a Freehold resident who died in 2017. Born in Czechoslovakia, Wolt fled with his parents at the onset of World War II and spent his teen years as a refugee living in Wales.

Wolt and his mother returned to Prague after the war and eventually emigrated to the United States where he studied chemistry under a scholarship, taught at the University of Michigan, and became a lead scientist at International Flavors and Fragrances for more than 40 years, according to the press release.

Copies of “Three Days in January: Dwight Eisenhower’s Final Mission” are available at the library’s circulation desk prior to the Aug. 28 presentation. For further information, visit www.monmouthcountylib.org
