HOWELL – Mulligan’s Bar and Restaurant remained open following an accident in which a car crashed into one of the building’s entrance vestibules.
Firefighters from Howell’s Squankum Fire Company No. 1 responded to the business on Squankum Road just before 3 p.m. Aug. 5.
Assistant Chief Michael Kortenhaus arrived on location to find a vehicle had struck one of the restaurant’s entrance vestibules. Chief Michael Silvani arrived and requested assistance with shoring up the building.
Firefighters from Howell’s Freewood Acres Fire Company assisted with the task of shoring up the structure at the direction of the Howell Building Department, which deemed the rest of the building safe.
Mulligan’s General Manager Bob Scherer said the bar and grill returned to “business as usual” following the incident. Demolition of the destroyed entrance began on Aug. 7.
The entrance that was struck “has a ramp that individuals who have a handicap use to come into the building, so it is important for us to get it open as soon as possible,” Scherer said.
He said the restaurant’s operators obtained the necessary permits from the township to demolish the damaged entrance vestibule and to construct a new one.
No information about the driver of the vehicle that struck Mulligan’s or the details of how the incident occurred were available from the Howell Police Department.
