The Aberdeen and Matawan police departments will challenge a team from WFAN sports radio in a charity softball game at 6 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Fireman’s Field, corner of Lloyd Road and Gerard Avenue, Aberdeen.

The softball game will benefit Matawan Regional High School student Darrell Rogers Jr.

Darrell, 16, a sophomore and member of the school’s varsity basketball team, suffered sudden cardiac arrest during a practice as a result of an undiagnosed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The police departments will play a team from WFAN, including Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti, in the charity softball game.

In addition to the softball game, New York Giants defensive end Kerry Wynn and retired New York Giants linebacker Jessie Armstead will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures from 6:30-8 p.m.

Proceeds from ticket sales and a percentage of the proceeds from food vendors will help to defray Darrell’s medical bills. Tickets are $10. To purchase tickets, contact Matawan Sgt. Christopher Stark at 732-290-2020 ext. 2923.
