East Brunswick police charge man after road rage incident

EAST BRUNSWICK – A 52-year-old male resident of South Amboy was arrested and charged with allegedly attempting to use a hammer during a physical altercation on Sept. 2.

East Brunswick police officers were dispatched to Cranbury Road and Ryders Lane to investigate a report of a road rage incident. Dispatchers advised the officers the individuals involved in the incident were reportedly fighting in the road and that a weapon may have been displayed, according to police.

Upon arrival, the officers determined the weapon in question was a hammer. Police said an investigation determined the man from South Amboy had reportedly threatened other individuals with the hammer, but did not assault anyone.

The man was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was released pending a court date.
