FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Debra Preston of Freehold Township has received the Monmouth County 2018 Municipal Alliance Volunteer of the Year Award presented by the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.

Preston joined the Freehold Municipal Alliance, which serves Freehold Borough and Freehold Township, last year, according to a press release.

With members of the fundraising subcommittee, Preston worked to achieve her goal of making the annual golf tournament, which is the alliance’s main fundraiser, a success. More than twice the amount that had been raised in previous years was realized, according to the press release.

Funds raised by the alliance go directly to schools in Freehold Borough and Freehold Township for activities that educate and inform students, teachers and parents about substance abuse.

According to a Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse program that was held on Sept. 25, at which time Preston received her award, “Ms. Preston’s hard work and success makes her a great ambassador for the Freehold Municipal Alliance.”

Preston said the alliance “works to create comprehensive substance abuse awareness programs for the residents of Freehold Township and Freehold Borough. In addition to our outreach programs to students, we also develop programs for our parents and teachers that engage and educate everyone in our community on the issues surrounding
substance abuse.

“We would not be able to provide these important and meaningful programs if it weren’t for the fundraising efforts of our dedicated committee members. Our annual golf tournament is our largest source of income and we are proud to have had such a successful event. That success will allow us to continue to develop meaningful and impactful programs that will benefit our community long into the future,” she said.

During a recent meeting of the Borough Council in Freehold Borough, officials passed a resolution honoring Preston upon being named Monmouth County’s Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse Volunteer of the Year.

“The mayor and council congratulate Debra Preston for her prestigious award and very sincerely thank her for her unselfish service to the youth and adults who will benefit from the programs provided by the Municipal Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse,” the resolution reads.
