The victim, Jose R. Caba, apparently fell off a cargo lift at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 15 while handling merchandise on tall storage shelves inside the Macy’s warehouse at 401 Clearview Ave., Police Capt. Joseph Shannon said.

Police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the accident scene.

The initial investigation indicates Caba, who had worked for Macy’s for about 14 years, apparently was not tethered to the cargo lift as a safety precaution when he lost his footing, police said.
