FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Incumbent Republicans Anthony Ammiano and Thomas Cook have won new three-year terms on the Township Committee in Freehold Township. The terms will run from January 2019 through December 2021.
On Nov. 6, Ammiano and Cook were re-elected to the governing body. Ammiano received 8,267 votes and Cook received 8,184 votes, according to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office.
The two Republicans turned back a challenge from Democrats Jennie Jeanette Mistretta, who received 5,902 votes, and Jenan Agnihotri, who received 5,633 votes.
The vote totals include all votes cast on Nov. 6 and all mail-in ballots. The totals do not include provisional ballots, which will be counted this week. The results are unofficial until they are certified by the county.
Ammiano, who is serving as mayor this year, joined the committee in 2001. For 33 years, he has worked as the Chief Financial Officer/treasurer for Del-Sano Contracting Corporation, Union.
“On behalf of myself and Deputy Mayor Tom Cook, I would like to thank the residents for electing us to serve on the Township Committee,” Ammiano said. “We will continue to achieve what we strive for every year, which is to keep Freehold Township a family town that is affordable and has services and amenities that make it a wonderful place to live.”
Cook joined the committee in 2013. Professionally, Cook is the reprographics director for an international law firm in New York City.
“I’m honored the community has asked me to continue serving them on the Township Committee,” he said. “There is much work to do in the upcoming three years and I look forward to partnering with this committee and the residents on moving our town forward.”
