When the results were tallied on Nov. 6, Esposito, who is serving as board vice president for 2018, retained his seat by receiving 4,671 votes. Kenny received 4,496 votes. Ciak, who is serving as board president for 2018, retained his seat by receiving 4,420 votes, according to results posted online by the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office.

Ciak, Esposito and Kenny emerged as the top vote-getters in a field of seven candidates. Incumbent Thomas Biesiada, who first served on the school board from 2007-12 and returned in 2016, recorded 2,411 votes, according to the clerk’s office. His term will end in December. Bhumi Patel received 2,839 votes, Ryan Charzewski collected 2,002 votes and Ryan De La Uz registered 1,299 votes.

The election results are unofficial until certified by the county.

Ciak is a finance leader with General Electric. A lifelong resident of Sayreville and graduate of Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS), he joined the school board in 1994.

“I’d like to thank Sayreville residents for their continued confidence in me to continue to ensure our children receive an outstanding education,” he said. “The re-election of the board’s leadership team says to me that residents believe in our public schools and that our school board’s vision is aligned to our community’s needs and aspirations for our children. I also look forward to working with Carrie Kenny and having the perspective of another educator as part of our Board of Education team.”

Esposito is the national credit manager for Standard Motor Products, a publicly traded auto parts manufacturer. He has resided in Sayreville for 17 years and joined the school board in 2016. Esposito said he sought re-election to build upon recent improvements in school safety, special needs education and other services to students.

“I would like to thank the Sayreville residents for their confidence by voting for me,” he said. “I look forward to serving the district for three more years. And I promise to work even harder over the next three years than I have in my first three to ensure our students and staff have everything they need to be successful.”

Kenny is an academic support teacher who currently teaches in the South Amboy School District. She previously taught at Perth Amboy Catholic School for five years and holds a degree in sociology and elementary education, certified nursery through grade eight, with a concentration in early childhood learning development from William Patterson University. Born in Sayreville, she graduated from SWMHS in 1989 and moved to South Amboy in 1994 before returning to Sayreville in 2011.

“I would just like to take the opportunity to thank the residents of Sayreville for putting their confidence in me,” Kenny said. “I look forward to serving you along with the other dedicated, hard-working board members. Congratulations also to Mr. Ciak and Mr. Esposito. I know that together, we can continue to make Sayreville schools the best they can be.”
