The Most Reverend James F. Checchio, Bishop of Metuchen, will preside over evening prayer to launch a year of spiritual awakening for all Catholics in the Diocese of Metuchen at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, 548 Main St., Metuchen.

The year-long spiritual preparation will lead to a consecration of the Diocese of Metuchen to Jesus through Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 12, 2019. The chosen date marks the traditional Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, who is known as the Patroness of the Americas and the Star of the New Evangelization.

Parish representatives will proceed into the cathedral and lay flowers at the base of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. During the liturgy, Checchio will bless in-home parish prayer kits.

All people of Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties are invited and encouraged to participate. For more information, visit www.lightingheartsonfire.org.
