HOWELL – A resident of Howell is expected to face motor vehicle charges following his involvement in a crash with a Howell Police Department vehicle.
Police said the collision occurred at about 4:15 p.m. Feb. 15 on Manassa Road, near Norse Road. Police said a 2016 Toyota Avalon being driven by a 62-year-old male resident of Howell drove into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a police vehicle head-on.
The police vehicle was being driven by a Howell patrolman. Police said the patrolman sustained what appeared to be a significant injury to his foot and lacerations to his face. The 62-year-old man sustained what police described as minor injuries, including a laceration to his face.
Both men were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for further evaluation. On Feb. 16, the patrolman was released from the hospital, according to police. No additional details about the 62-year-old man were provided.
In a press release, police said the cause of the collision is still under investigation. Police said that at a minimum, the Howell resident would be charged with failure to maintain lane.
Toxicology tests on the 62-year-old man are pending. Police said he consented to having his blood drawn. The investigation at this point has not revealed the Howell resident was impaired from drugs or alcohol and police said it is not believed he was impaired.
