Taxpayers should not be paying for sports coaches

As a hard-working taxpayer who is choking on my school taxes, I am of the opinion that state funding cuts for activities such as sports and other extracurricular activities is plain old common sense.

It’s out of control in the first place. Why are taxpayers paying for salaries for coaches, the maintenance of sports fields and the salaries of those who provide the maintenance (have you seen Howell High School grounds lately?) etc.

I thought education’s primary purpose was to learn reading, writing and arithmetic, or alas, it should be. Every sport my son participated in was paid for out of my own pocket. I just don’t get it.

The schools are going to have to learn how to do with less, you know, like the average New Jersey taxpayer does when our taxes increase every year and our salaries don’t.
