Cherie Pizzano is a coaching legend up at Linden High School in Union County.

The Sayreville resident took over the Linden boys’ bowling program in 2000. In almost two decades, her teams have compiled an eye-opening 228-65 record. The teams have also won six state sectional championships, five Union County titles and four Watchung Conference crowns.

All this winning earned a Pizzano a selection into the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The Linden Public Schools district announced the induction on March 7. Pizzano will enter the Hall of Fame at an induction dinner in Princeton on March 24.

The Sayreville native will be the first female coach from the Linden Public Schools to enter the hall.

“To know that I’m going into a Hall of Fame where I see my idols is so humbling,” Pizzano said in a Linden press release. “It’s so overwhelming that you almost can’t even believe it. I know of other coaches that are in there and I know how much of an impact they’ve had on sports in New Jersey.”
