8% increase in Howell tax levy is unacceptable

The Howell Township introduced municipal budget for 2019 shows $28,936,400 to be raised by taxes. In 2018, the comparable budget number was $26,804,765. This is an increase of 8% in the amount to be raised from taxpayers.

While a small portion will come from new ratables, the vast majority will come from existing homeowners through a combination of an increased tax rate and the increase in assessed value of our homes.

The next Township Council meeting is May 7 at the municipal building on Route 9, with the regular session starting at 7:30 p.m. Please come and be heard if you believe that an 8% tax increase is a huge burden on people who are already overtaxed.
