Friendship Circle of Central Jersey is celebrating 11 years of Walk4Friends, an annual fundraising event that is held to raise awareness of and inclusion for individuals with special needs and their families.

The May 19 event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the Vonage Corporate Center, 23 Main St., Holmdel. The day will open with a welcome from Friendship Circle director Chana’le Wolosow before participants embark on a leisurely 1-mile walk, according to a press release.

“The goal is not about speed or winning, it’s about creating an inclusive community,” Wolosow said.

Following the walk, families will enjoy a BMX show, rides, moon bounces, a petting zoo, an art center, an open-air market featuring local vendors and more.

Organizers said 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward the expansion and improvement of Friendship Circle’s programs as it continues its goal to provide support and opportunities to individuals with special needs and their families, as well as their teenage volunteer buddies, according to the press release.

To help with fundraising efforts, Friendship Circle is offering incentives to individuals who raise more than $1,000 by sharing their fundraising page or gaining corporate sponsors.

Adults 21 and older will be entered to win a four-night Western Royal Caribbean Cruise for two sponsored by Royalty Travel, while participants under 21 will have the opportunity to win tickets to a Broadway show, according to the press release.

Friendship Circle of Central New Jersey is based in Manalapan and is dedicated to creating a supportive community for special needs children, their families and high school volunteers.
