The South River Police Department invites all South River residents to its annual Bicycle Rodeo & Public Safety Day beginning at 9 a.m. on June 8 at Denny Stadium, David Street, South River.

Learn about bicycle safety with the new Bike Ride with a Cop. The Dialed Action Sports Team will perform a bike stunt show. There will be emergency vehicles on display. Fingerprinting for children will be available.

Free entry, refreshments, raffle and entertainment.

Bicyclists must wear helmets to participate.

Admission is free.

The 4-H Indian Langoor Club will hold a lecture, “The Missing Stories,” by Samip Mallick, co-founder and executive director of the South Asian American Digital Archives, for a presentation on Recording History: Live by 4-H Teen Chapter members from 12:30-3:30 p.m. May 19 at the 4-H Office, 42 Riva Ave., North Brunswick, inside Davidson Mills Pond Park.

There will be an exhibit on Indian festivals and facts presented by 4-H members.

Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Dr. Elena Tartaglia will dispel common myths and prejudices about moths in the next Option Green program at the East Brunswick Public Library, to be held at 7 p.m. on June 5.

 

In “Strangers in the Night: Moths in Your Backyard,” Tartaglia will discuss moths’ important role in the environment as pollinators and their diversity throughout the world. She will also share tips for watching and documenting moths in your backyard.

Tartaglia is a founding member of the National Moth Week team, which coordinates the worldwide citizen science project. National Moth Week was founded by the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission (EBEC) in 2012 and has been observed in all 50 states nearly every year and more than 80 countries around the world. This year, it will be observed July 20-28.

The program is free and open to the public. Children eight and older are welcome.

The Friends of the Jamesburg Public Library, with the Friends of the Spotswood Public Library, are sponsoring a trip to the Spirit of Philadelphia on June 18.

The cost is $75 and includes a buffet lunch cruise on the Delaware River, bus transportation and driver gratuity.

The bus will leave at 9:45 a.m. from the library, 225 Gatzmer Ave., Jamesburg, and return at approximately 5 p.m.

Tickets can be obtained at the library, by calling 732-521-0440 or by mailing a check payable to Friends of the JPL or the Spotswood Library. Last date for payment is June 10.

The 17th annual Middlesex County Prevention Education Summit will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 14 at the Middlesex County Fire Academy, 1001 Fire Academy Dr., Sayreville.

Lt. Jason Piotrowski o the New Jersey State Police Office of Drug Monitoring & Analysis will be the guest speaker.

Cost to attend is $20. Exhibiter fee is $100.
