On June 15 from 2-5 p.m., Sport Clips donated 15% of paid haircut proceeds to the program, which sends police officers into the four elementary schools in town to teach children about safety in their schools and neighborhoods.

The exact number of attendees and the amount of money raised was not tallied as of press time.

“It is important to us at Sport Clips to work together as a team, alongside our community, to support the important work of organizations like Adopt-a-Cop,” said Niru Mulay, team leader for the North Brunswick location.

Mulay had contacted Police Director Ken McCormick, inquiring about ways to help the department and community, according to Police Capt. Brian Hoiberg. In return, Detective Michael Braun of the Adopt-a-Cop program, invited him to headquarters where they discussed several options. Mulay decided on the Hair Cut for a Cause suggestion.

“As an organization that serves the community, it is always imperative to have great relations with those that we deal with on a daily basis, in everything we do. Community relations are our version of customer service. Our jobs can be easier or harder depending on the relationships that we have or don’t have. We try to foster relationships with residents and businesses, to make a positive difference and allow for good future interactions. Good community policing recognizes that the police need the community, and the community needs the police,” Hoiberg said.
