HOWELL – After serving for almost a decade on the Howell Zoning Board of Adjustment, Michael Sanclimenti has stepped down from the panel. Sanclimenti said he will be moving out of New Jersey.

During a recent meeting of the Township Council, officials accepted Sanclimenti’s resignation from the panel.

“Serving on the zoning board has given me the opportunity to contribute to the public good, protect the rural zones the township has created, and promote business in zones that are appropriate. I want to thank this council and previous councils for allowing me to serve on the zoning board,” Sanclimenti said.

Sanclimenti served as an alternate on the zoning board from 2005-06. In 2012, he was appointed as a regular member and he continued to serve until he notified the council he would be moving out of Howell.

Deputy Mayor Evelyn O’Donnell said she has worked with Sanclimenti for many years and said he has been an outstanding, committed and conscientious member of the zoning board.

“He will surely be missed on the zoning board and he and his wife are very active in the community. I wish them a lot of luck in their new endeavor,” O’Donnell said.

Councilman Thomas Russo said Sanclimenti is “old Howell and he served his time and our community very well and I want to thank him publicly for that. So thanks, Mike.”

On a motion to accept Sanclimenti’s resignation, O’Donnell, Russo and Councilwoman Pamela Richmond voted “yes” and made new appointments. Mayor Theresa Berger and Councilman John Bonevich voted “no.”

Bonevich clarified he did not oppose Sanclimenti’s resignation, but the appointments that followed.

“I would like to have some new blood on our boards. We should have put out a public notice. To me this is basically more of the same game of musical chairs. I was not elected for more of the same so I voted no,” he said.

Alternate No. 1, Paul Sayah, was advanced to a regular member and will serve the remainder of Sanclimenti’s term through Dec. 31.

Alternate No. 2, Jim Moretti, was advanced to alternate No. 1. That term runs through Dec. 31, 2020.

Glen Cantor was appointed as alternate No. 2 and will serve through Dec. 31.
