The Senior American Legion baseball regular season is only about a month long. So once it gets going in late June, it becomes a sprint to the finish line in mid July.

It feels like the 2019 campaign only just got going in central New Jersey. But now the regular season is already ending this week.

Barring inclement weather, the Mercer County American Legion League regular season is scheduled to  conclude on July 17.

Now MCALL teams are looking ahead to the District Tournament, which will only feature 16 clubs this summer. But the MCALL is still getting six bids.

The bracket is not yet finalized. And South Brunswick Post 401 has some work to do.

South Brunswick continues to be an up and down club in 2019. It fell to Allentown, 9-4, on July 2, then beat Ewing, 9-2, on July 5 and then lost to a 6-10 North Hamilton squad, 7-5, on July 8.

After this 1-2 stretch, South Brunswick is 7-9 and in seventh place in the MCALL standings. As it stands right now, the Monmouth Junction club would need its league to get an extra bid to the District Tournament, which happened last year for Allentown but is obviously not something you want to depend on.

South Brunswick does still have seven games remaining to make a run at securing a postseason berth.
