Spotswood council adopts bond ordinance for various improvements

SPOTSWOOD–The Borough Council adopted a $1,137,900 bond ordinance providing funding for various capital improvements, equipment and to purchase property.

Mayor Edward Seely said that the borough seeks to fund security and technology upgrades to the municipal building; purchase a new backhoe loader; begin improvements to Adirondack Avenue; renovate Firehouse No. 1; and make various improvements to the Office on Aging.

Seely said the borough also seeks to purchase a property located at 474 Main St. for municipal purposes. The referenced property is designated as more than 1.33 acres, according to the mayor.

The council adopted the bond ordinance on July 10.

The total cost for the various capital improvements, equipment and property is $1,789,000 and the bond ordinance will cover $1,137,900 of the costs, according to the council agenda.

Along with the adopted bond ordinance, Seely said the borough has also received a $49,000 grant from the New Jersey Municipal Tonnage Grant program and $542,200 in grant funds is expected from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to help cover the costs.

Seely said the borough will make a $59,900 down payment to pay for the remaining costs for the various capital improvements, equipment and property.
