There were smiles all around when a veteran police officer was promoted and two new police offices were sworn in by East Windsor Township Mayor Janice S. Mironov at recent East Windsor Township Council meeting.
Police Officer David Oleksy, who is a 13-year veteran of the East Windsor Township Police Department, was promoted and sworn in as a sergeant in front of family, friends and East Windsor police officers.
Bryan M. Butchon and Nicole M. Orbin were sworn in as police officers, filling open slots in the Police Department.
“This is an exciting evening for East Windsor Township and our Police Department, as we recognize the accomplishments of an outstanding police officer and welcome two new police officers,” Mayor Mironov said.
It was a “tremendous celebration” for the police department and an opportunity to focus on the outstanding leaders and effective efforts of the East Windsor Township Police Department, Mironov said.
There is a rigorous hiring process for new police officers that ensures that the township has the best police department in the state. The new officers are qualified, professional, caring and motivated to be part of a strong and effective team, Mironov said.
“We also have an opportunity to recognize a police officer who has made his mark in the police department and to promote him to a new level of leadership,” Mironov said as she prepared to swear in the new police sergeant.
Sgt. Oleksy took the oath of office to serve as a police sergeant as his wife, Dana, held the Bible.
Sgt. Oleksy joined the East Windsor Township Police Department in 2006, following graduation from the Ocean County Police Academy. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
During the course of his career, Sgt. Oleksy has received two Unit Citation awards, two Life Saving awards, an Educational Achievement award, a Field Training Officer award, an award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving for excellence in driving while intoxicated detection, and several Awards of Merit.
Then, it was the turn of two new police officers to be sworn into office .
Police Officer Bryan M. Butchon was sworn into office by the mayor as his sister, Tara, held the Bible.
Officer Butchon graduated from the Mercer County Police Academy in July. He earned an associate of arts degree from Mercer County Community College and a bachelor’s degree in law and justice studies from Rowan University.
Officer Butchon worked as a special law enforcement officer with the Avalon Police Department before joining the East Windsor Township Police Department.
With her parents, Michael and Kellyanne Orbin standing at her side, Police Officer Nicole M. Orbin was sworn into office by Mironov. Her mother held the Bible.
Officer Orbin graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy in 2018. She earned an associate’s degree from Ocean County College and is working toward a bachelor’s degree in business management at Kean University.
Officer Orbin worked as a special law enforcement officer with the Pine Beach, Seaside Park and Toms River police departments before joining the East Windsor Township Police Department.
