EDISON – Fire swept through and destroyed a vacant Walker Avenue house in the early morning hours of Dec. 4, township fire officials said.

Firefighters found the ranch-style house at 55 Walker Avenue partially collapsed with flames shooting through its roof and second-story windows when they arrived at 3 a.m. on Dec. 4, said Battalion Chief Joseph Gaul in a release.

“It appears this fire was burning for awhile before anyone noticed and we were dispatched to the scene,” he said. “It took about an hour for our firefighters to bring it under control, but it appears to be a total loss.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Police Lt. Robert Dudash said the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

The house was recently sold and its new owners told police Officer Ankur Mankad at the scene contractors have been doing interior renovations, Dudash said.
