FREEHOLD – Municipal officials have awarded a $1.39 million contract for the installation of a new water well at Freehold Borough’s water treatment facility on Waterworks Road.

On Dec. 16, Borough Council members authorized an agreement with A.C. Shultes Inc., Woodbury Heights, to install a new well that will be known as Well No. 10.

Well No. 10 will replace Well No. 3, which was decommissioned because its screens failed, according to a resolution.

According to the resolution, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection granted Freehold Borough officials permission to install the new well. The new well will be permitted to operate when the borough’s new water treatment plant, which is in the planning stages, becomes fully operational.

The new well was designed by Abbington Engineering, which is Freehold Borough’s municipal engineer.

A.C. Shultes was deemed to have been the only contractor to submit a responsible bid for the project, with a bid in the amount of $1.39 million, and was awarded a contract in that amount by the council, according to the resolution.

The council’s resolution states that A.C. Shultes has performed similar duties on the water treatment plant’s well for many years and is qualified to undertake the project.

In other business, the council authorized the purchase of a Ford F450 dump truck from Winner Ford, East Cherry Hill. The maximum amount for the purchase will be $61,839, according to a resolution. The truck will include options such as four-wheel drive output and a snow plow.

And, council members awarded a contract to Altec Industries Inc. for the purchase of an aerial lift truck. The total amount of the contract is $99,875. A resolution states that officials determined the purchase of an aerial lift truck will assist in the improvement of public works operations.
