A doctor who practiced family medicine in the Freehold area for more than four decades and served on the board of the CentraState Healthcare Foundation, among other public service, has died.
Dr. Kenneth W. Faistl, 70, of Mantoloking and formerly of Marlboro and Colts Neck, died on Feb. 2 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township, according to information provided by the Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
Faistl was a practicing family physician in Monmouth County for more than 40 years. He founded the Rutgers Family Medicine Residency Program at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, and served as the program director for 10 years.
“As the driving force behind our Family Medicine Residency Program and many other initiatives, Dr. Faistl was an integral part of the growth of CentraState,” said Dr. James Matera, chief medical officer at Centrastate Healthcare System. “He was the ultimate family physician who bettered the lives of his colleagues, patients and friends.”
In addition to his affiliation with CentraState Medical Center, Faistl also served as the program director at the Mountainside Family Practice Residency Program, Verona.
Most recently, Faistl worked in private practice with the Hackensack Meridian Medical Group, Jackson.
Faistl was a member of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians, having served more than 20 years in leadership roles, including president and chairman of the board. In 2010, he was selected as the New Jersey Family Physician of the Year.
Faistl also served as the medical director for New Hope Foundation, a not-for-profit drug and alcohol treatment center, with inpatient facilities in Marlboro and an outpatient treatment office in Freehold.
He was the co-medical director for the physician assistant graduate program at Monmouth University, West Long Branch.
Faistl served on advisory boards including the CentraState Healthcare Foundation, where he served as chair; the VNA Health Group; chair of the Colts Neck Board of Health; and the Board of Directors for New Jersey Community Bank, Freehold.
The funeral home’s directors said Faistl’s family requested that his life of service and dedication to his family, profession, patients and faith be honored with donations to the CentraState Healthcare Foundation, 225 Willow Brook Road, No. 5, Freehold Township, NJ 07728, or to the New Hope Foundation, 2 Monmouth Ave., No. 2, Freehold, NJ 07728.
