South Brunswick has seen only single digit increases in COVID-19 cases since June 13.

The trend seen in June continues with fewer older people testing positive, according to information provided by the township on Aug. 10. It has been more than 40 days since a person over the age of 65 tested positive, according to reports. The majority of the people testing positive now are in their 20s and 30s. The New Jersey State Department of Health website continues to list South Brunswick as having the virus suppressed at this time, according to the statement.

Statewide, 545 people are hospitalized from COVID, down from a high of over 8,000 in April, according to the statement. Testing results are taking longer to come back as more people are being tested, even those without symptoms. Test results can take over a week to come back.

South Brunswick currently has 465 total cases of residents who have tested positive. This number reflects both residents and people living in long term care facilities in the township, according to the statement. The Middlesex County Health Department indicates 31 township residents have passed away from the virus: 16 were men and 15 were women. The average age of the person who passed away from the virus in the township is 75. Half of all the people who passed away were living in or connected to long term care facility, according to the statement.

Middlesex County has a total of 17,919 residents who have tested positive.
