Three new special law enforcement officers have been appointed to the Keyport Police Department.

On March 16, Borough Council members appointed Danielle LaCapria, Tyler Ely and Briana Hedges to one-year terms as Class I officers following a recommendation from Police Chief Shannon Torres. Each officer will be paid $13.60 per hour.

And, council members retained Grace Your Space (Grace Sharpe) to provide a mural painting on a West Front Street property that is owned by Apollo Sewer and Plumbing.

According to a resolution, the mural is part of Keyport’s implementation of the Neighborhood Preservation Program, which was established by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

The mural will be an image of a plane from Aeromarine, a defunct aircraft manufacturer that was headquartered in Keyport. The $7,000 cost will be reimbursed by the DCA. The mural will be painted on plywood panels that will be installed on the property.

An agreement with Apollo Sewer and Plumbing will permit Keyport officials to install the mural and maintain it for five years, after which the agreement may be renewed by the council.
