SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The new principal of the Monmouth Junction School has three children, a wife and “a cool pair of shoes,” Superintendent of Schools Scott Feder said during the South Brunswick Public Schools Board of Education meeting on April 7.

Shaun Ruymen has been employed by the district since 2004. He was a dean at South Brunswick High School and currently is an assistant principal at Crossroads Middle School North.

“I am honored and excited to be standing here for this moment,” Ruymen said as he stood at the podium during the meeting. “I want to thank you for placing this trust in me for taking leadership of Monmouth Junction School.”

Ruymen said moments matter: “Moments matter for me, they matter for the community of Monmouth Junction and they matter for the staff of Monmouth Junction School.”

He said he promises the school’s staff he will support, inspire and celebrate their efforts; he promises the community he will encourage partnership, communication and collaboration; and he promises students he will share laughs, read with them, and find out what moments matter to them.

Feder said the process for a candidate is not easy. Each person undergoes multiple interviews and creates a 15- to 20-minute presentation for 16 people.

“At all stages of the process, Shaun received unanimous support from every single person on those committees, and that’s rare,” the superintendent said.
