Kim holds 64th Town Hall in East Windsor
Congressman Andy Kim (D-3) held a town hall at the East Windsor Township Senior Center, speaking with neighbors about Gun Violence Awareness Month as well as other community-wide issues on June 26.
Kim, a Democrat, has represented New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District since 2018. After New Jersey’s redistricting in 2022, East Windsor is now constituted in Kim’s district.
In his 64th town hall, Kim was introduced by East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov, and was joined by Tiffany Starr with Moms Demand Action who shared her personal experience with gun violence and her advocacy for gun control measures.
Kim vowed to continue combatting gun violence and making his district’s communities safer, citing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that he helped pass into law last year.
“We have to recognize how specific this issue of gun violence is to our nation,” Kim said. “I hope we can move past the barriers that have prevented us from having these important conversations so that we can move forward to real action.”
Kim also spoke about his commitment to providing servicemembers with healthcare benefits, pointing to the Dental Care for Our Troops Act that he reintroduced the week before his town hall. The bill would provide no-cost TRICARE dental care for Guard and Reserve servicemembers.
“It may not sound like much, but the reality is that the number one problem that prevents servicemembers from deployment is dental care,” Kim said.
In addition, he discussed his work to expand mental healthcare, support care workers, and his efforts to deliver local investments secured through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other recent legislation.
To close his speech, Kim emphasized “the seriousness to which [his] office cares about constituent services.”
“It’s been less than six months that I’ve represented East Windsor, and even if we don’t agree on every issue, I hope you get the sense that my team is trying to anchor us through service,” Kim said. “It’s not just about what laws and policies we’re trying to pass, but it’s about how you get there with the people. I hope to set an example of how we can have conservations about tough subjects like gun violence without the yelling and screaming that we see so often today.”
Following his speech, Kim held a question-and-answer session where he faced questions about gun safety and the state of the military.
“I was glad to hear that there was a good response to the work that I’ve tried to do for our military, our servicemembers, their families, as well as our veterans. That is one of my biggest responsibilities in Congress,” Kim said. “It’s very good feedback for me to hear from my bosses, who are my constituents, and it gives me added momentum to dive deeper in these issues.”
Kim is the ranking member on the Military Personnel Subcommittee, and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
