Hopewell Valley Education Foundation awards $4,000 in scholarships to four high school graduates

Four graduates from Hopewell Valley Central High School’s Class of 2023 have each received a Hopewell Valley Education Foundation (HVEF) scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to further their education.

Ramit Dasika, Veer Davda, Paige Dumont, and Adhwita Gopi Selvan are the four scholarship recipients.

“Out of an extremely competitive pool of nominations, the academic, personal, and community service excellence demonstrated by these four students was truly outstanding,” said HVEF Board President Jill Patterson. “We’re thrilled to be able to honor their hard work and dedication as Hopewell Valley students and wish them every success in college and beyond.”

HVEF, which is a nonprofit that funds innovative teacher and staff-initiated grants across all curricular areas, awards four scholarships annually to members of the graduating high school class.

The scholarships go to graduating seniors who are planning to further their education at a two- or four-year college, trade or professional school.

The student should demonstrate strong academic achievement and deep interest in a specific area of study or extracurricular activity, such as English, history, science, mathematics, foreign language, robotics and others, according to HVEF.

For the Claude A. R. Kagan memorial scholarship, a graduating senior who has interests in line with those of Mr. Kagan is usually awarded this scholarship. Those interests are computers, science and technology.

This year, Selvan was the recipient of the Claude A.R. Kagan scholarship.

“Once someone submits a nomination, it is reviewed by a subcommittee of HVEF board members according to these criteria, whether the nominee has engaged in community service, and the overall quality of the application,” said HVEP Board member Susan Promislo.
The applications are blinded, and we do not see the nominees’ names, she added.
There were 73 nominations for the Class of 2023 received by HVEF.

The foundation has been awarding scholarships to graduates for close to 20 years.
