Pennington officials have removed a two-hour parking restriction on a section of Burd Street.
The removal of the two-hour parking restriction was approved for a section of Burd Street that is between West Delaware Avenue and Academy Avenue through an ordinance at the Borough Council’s Dec. 4 meeting.
Council President Catherine Chandler, Councilwoman Kati Angarone, Councilwoman Deborah Gnatt, Councilman Charles Marciante, Councilwoman Nadine Stern, and Councilman John Valenza voted in favor of adopting the measure.
When the parking restriction was implemented on for the east side of Burd Street, it was intended to improve available parking for downtown shoppers in the borough.
Residents and visitors could not be parked on that section of Burd Street for more than two hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. except on Sundays or holidays.
Chief of Police Doug Pinelli and the Borough’s Public Safety Committee recommended that the two-hour parking restriction be eliminated due to the lack of improvement of available parking.
Also, there is “a need for long-term parking,” according to the ordinance.
