The Resolution 5K begins at 11 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Hillsborough Municipal building, 379 South Branch Road.

Project Graduation provides the senior class at Hillsborough High School a high-spirited, all-night celebration and party immediately following the commencement exercises in June. The popular local effort is part of a nationally recognized program whose goal is to provide a drug and alcohol free celebration of life while giving graduates a positive sendoff, according to the organization’s website.

According to Prosper Press in a publication dated Feb. 21, 2016: The percentage of teen automobile fatalities involving alcohol jumps from 33% to 40% on the night of graduation. In a 2010 poll, 79% of seniors admitted teens were more likely to drink and drive on graduation night.

Rock Steady Boxing is a unique program in Hillsborough organized by Barbara Kelly to improve symptoms and quality of life in people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Resolution Run founder Gary Verhoorn said the program helped him tremendously following his own diagnosis.

Packet pick up opens at 9:30 a.m., race starts at 11 a.m. and awards are at 11:45 a.m. The race is rain or shine. For more information visit www.resolutionrun.org.
