The speed limit along a stretch of Route 206 between Brearley Avenue and Skillman Avenue may be lowered to 25 miles per hour during school hours.

Lawrence Township officials requested a reduction in the speed limit from 35 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour. It would apply to the school zones for St. Ann’s School, the Eldridge Park School and the Lawrence Intermediate School.

The speed reduction would be in effect during recess and while the children are on their way to school and on their way home.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Traffic Engineering completed an investigation into the township’s request to lower the speed limit, according to a letter from the agency last year.

The Lawrence Township Council approved a resolution in support of the proposed speed reduction and sent it to the NJDOT. The resolution is the first step toward implementing the change.
