Hopewell Township house destroyed by fire

A fire ripped through a house on Cleveland Road, between Pretty Brook Road and Carter Road, April 4, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

Police were notified of the fire at 10:45 a.m. by a passing motorist.

When police officers and firefighters arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames. The house was unoccupied when the fire broke out, police said.

Firefighters under the command of Pennington Fire Company Assistant Fire Chief Robert Ingram attacked the fire.

The Pennington Fire Company was assisted by the Hopewell Fire Department, the Union Fire Company and Hopewell Valley Emergency Services.

Firefighters from Lawrence Township, Ewing Township, Princeton and Montgomery Township also assisted.

The Hopewell Emergency Medical Unit, Capital Health EMS and the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad also responded.

A preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire, which left the house with heavy damage, did not point to anything suspicious, police said. All fires in Hopewell Township are investigated as suspicious until proven otherwise.
