FREEHOLD – The Freehold Borough Human Relations Committee has named the winners of its recent beautification contest. The contest was held in conjunction with the mayor’s spring cleanup incentive program.

The beautification contest was offered as an additional incentive to keep Freehold Borough looking good, said Carol Lida, who chairs the Human Relations Committee. Local businesses sponsored prizes.

The winners were announced at the June 5 meeting of the Borough Council.

The winners were Leslie Hope Horowitz and Michael Hughes for extensive work at their home on West George Street.

Major renovations on the home included replacing the old porch, adding a black metal roof; new siding and shutters, copper gutters and a new walkway.

The winners received a grill from Home Depot, Freehold Township.

The second prize winner was Sue Laferrera of Yard Avenue, who replaced her front porch and landscaped her front beds.

The Freehold Downtown Partnership in collaboration with the American Hotel, A Little Bit of Cuba Dos, Federici’s Italian restaurant and Metropolitan Cafe sponsored the second place award of gift certificates valued at $125.

The third prize winner was Susan D’Angelo of Brinckerhoff Avenue, who came up with a creative solution to a unattractive garden wall.  The third place award was a $75 credit card gift card.
