“Middlesex County knows how important it is to keep its residents and visitors connected to culture, from time-honored traditions to the latest in the performing arts. With our new mobile service, staying connected is now as easy as texting a friend,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Kenneth Armwood, chair of the county’s Business Development and Education Committee.

Information on the county’s own sites and programs are available, as are updates on multicultural, visual arts, music, theater, craft, history and dance programming presented by nonprofit groups throughout the county’s 25 municipalities.

The mobile service even lets the user explore local history without making a trip: Take a cultural quiz online or listen to one of the county’s Uncommon History podcasts on topics like the legend of the Jersey Devil or the New Jersey boxer who inspired the “Rocky” film series.

Users can also share their experiences with Middlesex County’s arts and history on the site.

“The Board of Chosen Freeholders is proud of all the facets of the Office of Culture and Heritage, and this service is a great way to learn about all the office has to offer,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “This county’s commitment to art, history and tradition begins with grant funding to more than 100 nonprofit cultural organizations to our local partners and extends to the county’s partnership with the New Jersey Department of State Council on the Arts and the State Historical Commission.”

The mobile app also is a gateway to the county’s website, www.co.middlesex.nj.com, which offers even more in-depth information on the history, arts and cultural pursuits to explore.
