EDISON — Edison officials are doing their part in supporting relief efforts for the hurricane victims in the Caribbean, Florida and Texas with “Edison Eats for Relief,” a charitable initiative Mayor Thomas Lankey created in response to recent devastating hurricanes, Harvey, Irma and Maria.
Mayor Thomas Lankey said, “So many people’s homes were destroyed, their belongings lost forever, and their lives shattered that I felt compelled to have our community offer help,” Lankey said. “Edison Eats for Relief is a distinctive way for us to assist other Americans in need and at the same time, support our local businesses.”
From Oct. 15-21, Edison restaurants pledged their participation including Benihana on Parsonage Road; Bombay Spice II, La Bonbonniere, LouCas and Villa Gennaros, all on Lincoln Highway (Route 27); Moghul and Ming, on Oak Tree Road; Outback Steakhouse, Skylark Diner, and Zinburger on Route 1; and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, on Parsonage Road.
Money raised in Edison will go to the One America Appeal Fund, established by the five former Presidents to provide hurricane relief.
A dozen other local eateries have made direct contributions to Edison Eats for Relief raising $5,800, so far. Those include: Akbar Banquet Hall on Cortlandt Street; Chef’s Table, Dragon Palace, Mithaas/Moghul Express Restaurant all on Oak Tree Road; Harold’s New York Deli, King Georges Post Road; Havana Central, Parsonage Road; Francesco’s Pizzeria, Woodbridge Avenue; Edison Diner, Soho Shabu-Shabu, on Route 1; and Meemah Chinese-Malaysian Cuisine on Lincoln Highway.
Contributions to “Edison Eats for Relief” from other area eateries are welcome, Lankey said.
