HILLSBOROUGH: Police investigating bomb threat at municipal building

A bomb threat at the Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex earlier this afternoon has kicked off an investigation by local law enforcement agencies looking into who may have called in the hoax.

According to Lt. Mike McMahon, of the Hillsborough Township Police Department, the bomb threat was called in to the police at approximately 1:40 p.m., prompting a complete evacuation and lock out of the building. A bomb detection canine and handler from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department was called in to assist officers in a search of the building, which found no credible threat.

With the building clear of any immediate danger, township employees were allowed back in to continue on with the work day.

Officials said the incident is currently under investigation by the township police department. Other responding units included the Hillsborough Township Fire Department and the Hillsborough Township Office of Emergency Management.
