The deceased pedestrian was identified as John Kukuch Jr., 31, of Woodbridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the hit and run, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Robert Hubner of the Woodbridge Police Department.

An autopsy had been scheduled with the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office, as of press time.

Officer Joseph Angelo of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Don Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined the driver was traveling south on Route 1 at approximately 1:23 a.m., struck the victim near Clover Leaf Cemetery, and then fled the scene.

Investigators believe the vehicle sustained damage to the front-end passenger’s side.

Anyone with information should contact Angelo at 732-634-7711 or Heck at 732-745-8842.
