Lawrence woman struck by car and killed in Camden

A Lawrence Township woman who had tried to cross a highway in Camden on foot was struck by three motor vehicles and fatally injured on Nov.12, with her 13-year-old son there when it happened, authorities said.

The sequence of events started around 4:44 a.m. when Crystal Kelley, 46, was in a one-car crash on the southbound lane of I-676, a highway connecting New Jersey and Philadelphia.

Her GMC Terrain became disabled in the left shoulder, against the concrete median, New Jersey State Police said.

She and her son, who suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash, left the vehicle and began walking on the northbound lanes of the highway, New Jersey State Police said.

Three vehicles hit her, but only one driver stayed on the scene,New Jersey State Police reported. Authorities would not disclose what traffic lanes she was struck in.

Kelley was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she was pronounced dead, State Police said. Her son was turned over to his father, authorities said.

In terms of the cars that fled, authorities said they are looking for a dark colored Nissan Maxima, a 2009-2015 to model, with damage to the left front side and the undercarriage. The second vehicle is a dark colored car, with authorities having no further information.
