SOUTH BRUNSWICK – During the South Brunswick Township Council reorganization meeting on Jan. 8, Joe Camarota was unanimously elected as deputy mayor.
Mayor Charles Carley and council members Archana “Ann” Grover and Kenneth Bierman were sworn into their respective positions after being voted in by residents during the 2018 general election.
Rounding out the all-Democratic council is Josephine “Jo” Hochman.
The mayor and council thanked all the volunteers who preside as members of the township’s commissions and boards for their tireless efforts, township spokesperson Ron Schmalz said.
“With regards to 2019 goals, the affordable housing issue is still our No. 1 concern and the township will continue to fight the court’s decision. The Route 1 Hard Shoulder Running Program will continue and has helped in alleviating traffic concerns during rush hours. Another concern is the Williams compressor site in Franklin Township; the township will continue its fight against the installation,” Schmalz said.
Carley added, “[In] South Brunswick Township, it is municipal government’s intention to provide all those services it already does, but to provide focus on some key areas that’ll affect the future of the community. Our Master Plan, a key planning document, needs to be re-examined in context of court-mandated development. We’ll need to put extra effort into upgrading transportation through the town, including roadway repairs and intersection upgrades. We’ll also be redoubling our open space preservation agenda – we need to preserve as much of our children’ environmental heritage as we can. With development pressures imposed by the courts, we’d better do so sooner rather than later.”
