Here is a look at some sparkling performances by local athletes as the winter 2015-2016 season kicked into full gear

 New Egypt High School’s Faith Weber, scored 20 points, pulled down 18 rebounds and blocked seven shots in the Warriors’ season-opening 49-30 victory over Medford Tech,

New Egypt is the Burlington County Scholastic Independent Division champion for the past two years.

Haley Dalonzo had a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals in Middletown South’s 94-67 victory at Manalapan.

Stephanie Karcz added 22 points and 12 rebounds for last year’s NJSIAA Group III girls’ basketball state champion.

Point guard Nick Facendo scored 31 points, had 11 rebounds, eight assists and six steals leading Freehold Township to a 70-58 victory over Wall Township in the WOBM Christmas Classic at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.

Chase Barneys scored a game-high 24 points as the Colonia High School boys opened their 2015-16-basketball campaign with a 41-36 at Woodbridge.

Colonia captured Greater Middlesex Conference and NJSIAA North Jersey Section II, Group III tournaments last winter.

A pair of freshmen have the Ranney School’s boys basketball team off and running. Guard Bryan Antoine had 17 points, four rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals and forward Scottie Lewis, 15 points seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the 61-36 victory over Keansburg.

Ranney has started the season 2-0.

Lamont Reid won the 182-pound division championship at the Neptune Classic wrestling tournament, helping Long Branch High School capture the team championship with 151.5 points.

East Brunswick High School’s Mark Schliefer (120) was named the Outstanding Wrestler, Lighter Weights at the Old Bridge Ice Breaker Tournament. Matawan’s Derrick Wiley (160) was the Outstanding Wrestler, Upper Weights.

Host Old Bridge won the team championship with 206 points. Xavier Jenkins (152) and Dan Makagon (220) were the host Knights’ individual winners.

Jordan Rugo (170) and Zach Turner (182) won their respective weight divisions for the Allentown High School wrestling team at the Ice Breaker Tournament in Old Bridge.

Edison High School’s Tyler Karpinecz rolled a 664 series in the Eagles’ 4-0 triumph over Piscataway.

The senior has topped 600 in seven of the team’s last nine games.

Since a Dec. 1 loss, the Edison girls have won nine straight matches, six by a shutout.
