JACKSON – The Jackson Police Department teamed up with the Manchester Township Police Department and the New Jersey State Police for a traffic enforcement detail on the morning of March 13.
The traffic enforcement detail was conducted on portions of Route 571 in both municipalities, according to the Jackson Police Department.
The purpose of the traffic enforcement detail was to ensure motorists’ compliance with motor vehicle laws as part of an ongoing effort to reduce crashes and increase safety on Route 571.
In 2018, officers responded to 147 crashes on Route 571 in Jackson, according to police.
Troopers from the New Jersey State Police Commercial Carrier Unit were also present to conduct commercial vehicle enforcement. The troopers set up a temporary truck inspection site in a parking lot on Route 571 in Jackson.
As a result of this effort, Jackson and Manchester police officers conducted a combined total of 46 traffic stops and issued approximately 39 summonses within their respective townships.
In addition to the motor vehicle violations, one person was arrested by Manchester officers for an outstanding warrant and was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, according to police.
In addition to the traffic stops, the state troopers conducted 12 truck inspections, discovered numerous violations and took several trucks out of service.
Jackson police acknowledged Jackson Police Officer Brad Reider of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit and the department’s partnering agencies who made the collaborative effort possible. Police said additional cooperative traffic details are expected to be conducted as the year progresses.
